Banvit BRF Converts Treated Water into Drinkable Water

Banvit BRF, a leading poultry meat producer in Turkey, is recovering drinking-quality water at its Bandırma facilities—the location of its main production campus—equivalent to the annual water consumption needs of a settlement of approximately 24,000 inhabitants with around 6,000 households. On the occasion of "World Water Day," celebrated annually on 22 March, Banvit BRF draws attention to the importance of natural resources and conservation. Through its "Wastewater Recovery Facility" at the Bandırma main campus, the company recovers approximately 43% of the treated water in drinking-water quality. In 2021, Banvit BRF increased the proportion of water recovered to drinking-water quality for reuse by 6.5% on a cubic-metre basis compared to the previous year. With a 43% share suitable for drinking-water consumption, the company recovers the annual water supply and drinking-water needs of a settlement of approximately 24,000 inhabitants containing around 6,000 households. Although 70% of Earth's surface is covered with water, only 0.1% of water reserves are accessible for use and consumption. Eighty countries that are home to 40% of the world's population already face water scarcity. Aware that Turkey also has limited water resources, Banvit BRF recovers water used in its production facilities to drinking-water quality through sustainability initiatives and prevents water waste.

In 2021, achieved 8% water savings per kilogramme of poultry meat production

Banvit BRF has implemented measures across different areas to reduce its environmental footprint: from training to conservation measures, from energy efficiency to recyclable packaging, and from animal welfare to waste management. The company has been working for many years specifically to reduce its water footprint. In this context, in 2021 compared to the previous year, Banvit BRF achieved 8% water savings per kilogramme across all facilities in poultry meat production, positioning itself as one of the industry's leading companies. Meanwhile, as a result of its investments, Banvit BRF treats all water used in its facilities and makes it more environmentally responsible. Tolga Gündüz, CEO of Banvit BRF, stating that the company places great importance on water conservation and invests in this area, said: "As one of Turkey's leading poultry meat producers, we have restructured our production processes from a sustainability perspective, conscious of our responsibility. Through this, in our wastewater recovery facilities at the Bandırma main campus, we are now able to achieve water savings equivalent to meeting the annual water needs of a settlement of approximately 24,000 inhabitants. Compared to the previous year, we increased the proportion of water converted to drinking-water quality by 6.5%. Also in 2021, we reduced water consumption on a cubic-metre basis across all our production facilities by 5.71%. We plan to reduce water use across all our facilities by 13% by 2025. As we have done today, we will continue our efforts without interruption at Banvit BRF to create a liveable world, the most valuable legacy we will leave to our children."
