Packaging Industry Announces 2023 Targets
Packaging Sector Announces 2023 Targets
Packaging Manufacturers Association President Zeki Sarıbekir stated, "We believe we can reach our 2023 target by the end of 2022. Therefore, we have set our new target for 2023 at USD 10 billion."
In his statement, Sarıbekir said that in the first half of this year, the top 5 countries for packaging exports were the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the United States and Israel.
Emphasizing their strong position in the European market, Sarıbekir continued as follows:
"For many years, the United States was among the countries to which we exported the most, but this year it rose to fourth place. This shows us how important Turkey has become in the US market. The US is looking for alternative markets. Turkey has come to the forefront here. The packaging sector will reach much better levels with quality production and design. As supply chains are disrupted, countries moving away from China also turn to Turkey. By making good use of this opportunity, we can achieve much faster growth in exports." "Following the positive trend in exports, we have also revised our targets upward. In 2023, marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of our republic, we had targeted increasing Turkey's packaging sector market size from USD 25 billion to USD 30 billion, per capita consumption from USD 298 to USD 380, and our exports to USD 8 billion. However, we believe we can reach our 2023 target by the end of 2022. Therefore, we have set our new target for 2023 at USD 10 billion. For our sector size in 2030, we have set our target at USD 50 billion, and our export target at USD 20 billion. In line with this, in our 3-step roadmap, we first believe that major investments should be supported for raw material production in our country. In our sector, raw materials for packaging materials, particularly plastics, are mostly procured from abroad. We believe that such investments focused on raw material production will reduce manufacturers' costs in the long term and increase export speed. For this, a Turkey Petrochemical Initiative Group should be established. In this way, we can produce high value-added products and have a more competitive structure in the international arena." "Converting waste materials into recycling is of great importance. We need to encourage using our own waste, as China does. China purchased the world's plastic waste to develop its recycling industry, developed its industry and gradually brought it to zero. For this, we must also work with systems that will develop collection and recycling in our country. At this point, we support the 'Green Organized Industrial Zone' concept. Products manufactured in these areas will have open prospects. When ISO 9000 first came out, those without ISO 9000 certification could not export. In the future, similarly, exporters with poor carbon footprints will become unable to export. This develops in parallel with the increase in exports. Industry can be consolidated in organized industrial zones and moved out of cities. We always support these. As ASD, we believe this needs to be kept on the agenda. Sustainability and environmentally friendly production are Turkey's future. When we prioritize environmental sustainability, our logistics, production quality and competitiveness will all improve." he said. SourceAdvertisement
