Effective First Aid Management in Chemical Accidents
Effective Solutions in Chemical Accident First Aid Management
In industrial settings, during research and production phases, workers handling chemical substances may be exposed to chemicals as a result of accidents despite precautions taken. For this reason, emergency response methods and products used at the time of an accident are of vital importance. The faster and more correctly chemical burns are treated, the more possible it becomes to save the life of the accident victim and prevent permanent bodily damage.
What is Chemical Burn?
Chemical lesion results from the effects of corrosive and irritant chemicals on skin and eyes. Chemicals classified as corrosive and irritant are essentially; acids, bases, oxidizers, reducing agents, alkylating agents or solvents. The mechanism of a chemical lesion consists of 3 steps: • Contact between tissue and chemical, • Penetration of the product into the tissue, and • Reaction between the product and targeted biological compounds To stop a chemical burn, simply removing the chemical from the surface with a mechanical washing agent is often not sufficient. The chemical that has penetrated the deeper layers of the tissue (eye or skin) must necessarily be absorbed with an active washing agent. Diphoterine® washing solution has been developed as a product of 60 years of scientific knowledge, effective at every concentration on all corrosive and irritant chemicals, developed by PREVOR Chemical Risk Management and Toxicology Laboratories, which specialize in chemical risks.Effective Emergency Response Washing Protocol in Chemical Burns
Diphoterine® washing solution is a hypertonic, amphoteric and versatile washing solution that can be used as a first aid product in chemical accidents, preserving the positive aspects of water and compensating for its shortcomings. It is effective on all chemicals and concentrations. It has the mechanical properties of washing with water. It is harmless. Thanks to its multiple, reactive surface, it attracts, absorbs, neutralizes and safely removes all types of corrosive and irritant chemical agents from the body (this property is not found in water). In chemical splashes, Diphoterine® solution, which stops the chemical with active washing, reduces the severity of the burn at the moment of application, stops its penetration, controls the risk of chemical burn. It eliminates or reduces the need for secondary treatment. It prevents workforce loss. It is also effective in delayed washing use and assists medical treatment. It is ready to use in its own box. It is ideal for simple and quick use. Diphoterine® is sterilized and is a single-use product. Diphoterine® solution is defined as "Medical Device Class II A", CE 0459 certified and complies with EN15154-3/4 standards. Like in many countries around the world, it has been safely used for more than 20 years in Turkey in many industrial and public institutions (chemical, pharmaceutical, food, defense industry, mining, aviation, energy, etc.) as an emergency response solution. Diphoterine® well knows why it is "the most effective way to manage chemical burns".Why is Diphoterine® Solution the Most Effective First Aid Method?
1-) Reduces the severity of the lesion: Using Diphoterine® solution in the first minute prevents prolonged contact between the chemical product and tissues. Reduced contact diminishes the severity or risk of sequelae. 2-) Facilitates emergency response: Diphoterine® solution has been tested on 7 types of chemicals. Its effectiveness allows you to use small volume formats. 3-) Enables quick response: Diphoterine® solution makes it possible to respond to a person who has experienced a chemical accident in the shortest possible time. Thanks to its practical use, it provides significant time savings compared to water while waiting for emergency services to arrive for the accident victim. 4-) Portable anywhere: Thanks to Diphoterine® solution, which is easily transported to the accident site by response teams and used independently, you can always have a safe first aid solution at hand. For this reason, you are protected wherever you are. You can keep it with you, in the field or in emergency vehicles. 5-) Eliminates hypothermia risk: According to water washing standards, the accident victim must wash for a minimum of 15 minutes. This situation creates a hypothermia risk in the person and may cause them to stop washing. Thanks to the efficiency of Diphoterine® solution, rapid washing also eliminates hypothermia risk. 6-) Relieves pain: Diphoterine® solution quickly removes the chemical from tissues, providing relief to the accident victim, allowing them to open their eyes and increasing the effectiveness of washing. This situation allows the accident victim to calm down and reduces surrounding tension. 7-) Reduces maintenance costs: Safety showers that work with water have connection pipes, creating rust and contamination risks. Stagnant waters create lime scale, causing showers and pipes to rust, and as a result showers can become contaminated with bacteria. To prevent this problem, standards recommend that Diphoterine® solution be manufactured and packaged under sterile conditions and checked only once every two years. 8-) Extends response time: In a chemical accident, the accident victim and workers may lose their reflexes. For water to be effective, the optimal response time is limited to 10 seconds. Thanks to its active properties, Diphoterine® solution extends this response time to 1 minute. This extended margin allows a worker equipped with Diphoterine® solution to respond in time to assist the accident victim. 9-) Ready to use under all conditions: Only Class II A or higher medical devices can be used on injured eyes or skin. Clinical and toxicological studies of Diphoterine® solution have led to this classification. In case of splash, you can use Diphoterine® solution without having to check whether the eye or skin is in good condition. Diphoterine® emergency response products are ready to use in different packaging formats for use on eyes, skin and body in order to provide maximum efficiency in times of danger.
