Virtual Laboratory Developed for Occupational Health and Safety
Under the guidance of Dr. Selahattin Alan, Adjunct Professor at Selçuk University Faculty of Technology, a virtual laboratory application has been developed for occupational health and safety training.
Within the scope of a master's thesis titled "Examining the Impact of Virtual Reality Applications in Occupational Health and Safety Training" supervised by Dr. Selahattin Alan, a virtual laboratory application has been developed that creates scenarios based on the content of occupational health and safety training. These trainings, which are mandatory in workplaces, are now being delivered in a way that can be effectively understood by employees. With the virtual laboratory, personnel can experience the factory environment as if it were the real world before starting work. This allows workers to gain experience in a virtual reality environment without being exposed to the risks and hazards they might encounter in real life.

Virtual reality, which is used in many areas of life such as education, healthcare, defence industry, tourism, marketing, archaeology, architecture, art and entertainment, enables the experience of virtual worlds produced through appropriate equipment as equivalents of real environments. Many workplace accidents can be prevented through effective occupational health and safety training provided to employees. Despite legal obligations binding workplaces on this matter, the fact that the training provided is not sufficiently effective draws attention to the continued high rates of workplace accidents. According to data from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), a workplace accident occurs every 15 seconds globally.Advertisement
