Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology Used for the First Time at Şişecam
Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology Debuts at Şişecam
Şişecam, which has established a global company in Switzerland with 7Cbasalia, the owner of Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology that converts all organic and inorganic waste in solid, liquid and gas forms into environmentally friendly and economically beneficial outputs, is preparing to implement this technology at its Mersin facility. With this move, Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology will be deployed in an industrial setting for the first time worldwide.
Şişecam is preparing to use Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology, which converts waste into environmentally friendly and economical outputs, at its facilities in Mersin for the first time. Following the establishment of 7Cbasalia Global, a company formed in Switzerland in the first half of the year with 7Cbasalia, the technology owner, Şişecam will deploy this technology at its own facilities for energy generation, inorganic and organic waste disposal, carbon capture and wastewater treatment. After evaluating the project outputs, Şişecam will contribute to the global expansion of this circular business model that converts waste into added value.
Basalia enters industrial deployment for the first time
The integrated Basalia Bio-Cycle Process, to be constructed in an area adjacent to the Kromsan Factory in Mersin, will convert 80 tons per day of inorganic factory waste and 150 tons of municipal treatment sludge into hydrogen-rich combustible gas and useful Basalia Solids (raw material). The facility will use the Basalia Solids it produces to completely capture carbon dioxide from 2,500 cubic meters per hour of factory stack gas and will purify 500 cubic meters per hour of municipal wastewater (de-ionized water), converting it to circular process water for the factory. In this manner, Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology, which operates on an integrated and modular basis grounded in zero waste and zero emissions, will be deployed in an industrial setting for the first time worldwide.
Şişecam to expand technology to international platforms
Şişecam General Director Görkem Elverici stated: "We view the concept of sustainable future as our most important priority, and through our Care For Next strategy implemented within the framework of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we assume responsibility for protecting the planet, empowering society and transforming lives. In line with these objectives, we made our first investment in biotechnology last year in Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology, a significant Turkish innovation in the circular economy that operates with zero waste and zero emissions.
Our investment in this technology, developed with the aim of converting all types of waste into harmless substances, is fully aligned with Şişecam's sustainability objectives." Elverici continued: "We have seen successful results in initial trials and are now beginning to use Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology, which has the potential to pioneer the circular economy field, at our Mersin facilities. Subsequently, through the global company we have established with 7Cbasalia, the technology owner, we will also contribute to the expansion of Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology to international platforms." he said.
Circular solution to water scarcity
7Cbasalia Global AG Chief Executive Officer Dr. Reha Akçakaya stated that Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology decomposes all organic and inorganic waste that cannot be recovered without requiring separation, and then converts all this waste into hydrogen-rich gas alongside environmentally friendly and high-value-added economic raw materials and products. "We have a very strong and comprehensive global strategy based on our objective to transform the entire world in a green and circular manner, covering the 2023-2030 period.
Particularly with our 'carbon binding' process, we can solve not only the EU's but the entire world's carbon emissions problem fundamentally, in the most environmentally friendly, sustainable and economical way," said Akçakaya, noting that water scarcity is a fundamental problem worldwide and that the technology they developed also converts seawater into drinking and usable water.
Akçakaya stated: "Thanks to Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology, developed by scientist Ahmet Başal, a facility or factory can continuously reuse its total daily process water in a circular manner. We provide both water savings to factories and facilities and enable them to repeatedly reuse their own process water, thereby preventing environmental pollution." he said.
Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology transforms waste from an environmental problem into environmentally friendly value-added products and makes wastewater reusable (circular). Solid waste mixed with organic waste is first rendered harmless, and hydrogen gas, an environmentally friendly energy source, can then be obtained through these waste streams.
While Basalia provides the most environmentally friendly and economical solutions for companies facing waste problems, it also aims to produce "Green and Circular City" solutions for comprehensive city and country administrations. Through the widespread adoption of Basalia Bio-Cycle Technology, it will become possible worldwide to recover dirty water in a circular manner, eliminate all carbon dioxide emissions and obtain gas equivalent to natural gas. 7Cbasalia Global AG continues research and development work for the production of pure hydrogen, powerful soil conditioners, carbon-based 3D printer materials and lightweight construction materials.
