Atlas Copco Recommends On-Site Nitrogen Production for Nitrogen-Consuming Operations Atlas Copco, a leading global industrial company, has recommended on-site nitrogen generation solutions to operations using nitrogen in their production processes. Nitrogen tanks occupy significant space in nitrogen-consuming facilities and create safety risks due to their large volume and high-pressure liquid gas storage. Additionally, the high cost of tank rental and transportation services creates a financial burden for operations. In this context, Atlas Copco has made recommendations to nitrogen-consuming operations and stated that on-site nitrogen generation can overcome these problems. Atlas Copco's message: "Buy, produce on-site."
Atlas Copco Emphasizes Benefits of On-Site Nitrogen Generation in Operations
Erkin Divitçioğlu, Industrial Gases Business Development Manager at Atlas Copco, has made recommendations to nitrogen-consuming operations. Divitçioğlu highlighted the difficulties of nitrogen supply through tank rental and pointed out the gains to be achieved through on-site production in terms of cost, safety, purity control, efficiency and environment. Divitçioğlu stated: "If you have an air compressor, that means you have already solved half the problem. All you need is a nitrogen generator connected to your existing system to be able to produce your own nitrogen at your facility." Divitçioğlu also noted that on-site production provides a series of advantages and conveniences for operations, while equipment capital investment costs are recovered very quickly.
On-Site Nitrogen Production Allows More Cost-Effective Generation at Desired Purity Levels
Erkan Divitçioğlu noted that nitrogen purity supplied by gas companies is 99.999% and that gas companies supply all their customers with nitrogen at this purity level regardless of the nitrogen purity required. Divitçioğlu stated: "This high purity level is not necessary for approximately 75% of consumers who purchase liquid nitrogen for use in their processes. One reason that nitrogen stored at 99.999% purity is highly expensive is that a large air separation plant is required to produce nitrogen at this purity level. The tank required for nitrogen production at this purity level is roughly 10 times larger than the system that needs to be used for nitrogen production at 95% purity, and the smaller system can be significantly more cost-effective than the tank required for higher purity levels. For this reason, it is important to produce nitrogen at a purity level that can be suitable for everyone. Those producing on-site can generate nitrogen at the purity level they need at a much lower cost compared to purchasing nitrogen at high purity as liquid or gas."

On-Site Production Eliminates Rental Fees

Divitçioğlu emphasized that on-site nitrogen generation is the ideal solution for applications such as tire inflation, fire suppression, food packaging, laser metal cutting, electronic soldering, and plastic extrusion where successful results can be achieved with lower purity nitrogen. Noting that on-site nitrogen generation provides return on investment for operations by reducing unit gas cost, Divitçioğlu stated: "This solution produced within the operation eliminates rental fees paid for cylinders and liquid tanks. In rental systems, most workshops typically use three rental cylinder manifolds—one in use, one on standby, and one empty waiting to be picked up—so the savings provided by on-site production are even greater."
Divitçioğlu Lists the Advantages
Erkin Divitçioğlu, Industrial Gases Business Development Manager at Atlas Copco, has also listed the advantages that on-site nitrogen generation would provide in an operation. Divitçioğlu summarized these advantages as: Shorter downtime, Less labor, Fewer injuries, Reduced storage space requirements, Less waste, Lower carbon dioxide emissions.
