'Emergency Response Software' Project Now Live

Turkey's first chemistry-sector specialized organized industrial zone GEBKİM has activated the 'Emergency Response Software' project, which has been in development for approximately 18 months, designed to prevent potential accidents and fires while minimizing the environmental, social and economic impacts of emergencies that may occur. The software, which won first prize in the Occupational Health and Safety category at the Joint Futures Awards organized by TİSK, will enable unmanned aerial vehicles that patrol the zone autonomously to process observed data and transmit it to the command center. The UAVs will also automatically relay any adverse situations they detect to relevant units.

In the Marmara Region, which is Turkey's industrial locomotive, occupational health and safety initiatives are increasingly expanding.

GEBKİM OSB, known as Turkey's first specialized organized industrial zone in the chemical sector, has activated "An Innovative Step for Emergency Action in the Chemical Sector: Emergency Response Software," which it developed over 18 months by leveraging the advantages offered by technological advances. At a meeting held in the GEBKİM OSB Conference Hall, all project work completed during the implementation period was presented to beneficiaries, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and other organized industrial zone representatives.

With our Emergency Response Software project, we succeeded in implementing the digitalization process

GEBKİM Board Chairman Vefa İbrahim Aracı, commenting on the implementation of the Emergency Response Software and noting that GEBKİM is among Turkey's leading and exemplary organized industrial zones through the ecosystem it has created, continued as follows: "In our work, we continue to operate according to the principle of city, people and environment. With our Emergency Response Software project, which aims to prevent potential accidents, we have succeeded in implementing the digitalization process from our factories throughout all areas of our organized industrial zone. Taking into account the advantages that the power of technology provides us, we are proud to have implemented a project being carried out for the first time in Turkey."  

Will enable intervention before fires escalate

Under the project, which is also supported by the European Union and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, unmanned aerial vehicles operating autonomously with artificial intelligence over GEBKİM OSB will prevent potential accidents and enable intervention before fires escalate.  

Will automatically alert relevant public institutions in case of potential danger

Data from the UAVs, which will monitor GEBKİM OSB 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, particularly in high-risk areas, will be collected at the Command Center. In the event of a potential hazard, the system will automatically alert public institutions such as the fire department, AFAD, Health Units and the National Poison Center, and will also warn factory managers via mobile application.  

Training for 2,000 people

During the 18 months from installation to activation, to ensure the system operates efficiently, all GEBKİM and participating company emergency teams received training on subjects of major importance in the chemical sector, including basic first aid, emergency training, fire risk assessment, chemical spills and leaks, and fire response measures. Through a program consisting of 12 training modules and 3 seminars, approximately 2,000 people received training that enhanced the individual and institutional capacity of employers and employees. Prior to system activation, three pilot tests and drills were conducted within GEBKİM OSB.  

Disaster Awareness and Emergency Management Training for over 400 students

Under the project, over 400 students at GEBKİM Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Dilovası, operated by the GEBKİM Education, Research and Health Foundation, which will form the future qualified workforce in the chemical sector, received Disaster Awareness and Emergency Management Training.

Fire departments of 8 organized industrial zones were visited

Field visits were conducted at 40 enterprises operating in GEBKİM OSB by the project team together with technical experts to identify emergency structures and preparedness, conduct situation analysis, perform risk assessment and review emergency response plans. As part of establishing cooperation with neighboring organized industrial zones, the project team visited the fire departments of 8 organized industrial zones. Data obtained from these activities was integrated into the system to ensure effective coordination across all organized industrial zones in emergency situations.  

First prize in the 'Occupational Health and Safety' category

The Emergency Response Software project was awarded first prize in the Occupational Health and Safety category at the Joint Futures Awards organized by the Turkish Confederation of Employer Associations.
