TUSAŞ Wins Green Champion 2022 Award

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) has been recognized by The Green Organisation with the 'Green Champion 2022' award for exemplary environmental practices. Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) won the 'Green Champion 2022' award at the Green Apple Awards, one of the world's most prestigious sustainable environment awards, at a ceremony held on 21 November, with its 'Water Efficiency in the Aerospace Sector' project based on the integration of digital control systems into the water distribution network for water efficiency initiatives.

TUSAŞ's Water Consumption Project Receives Award

TUSAŞ's award-winning project aims to make a positive contribution to global sustainable development goals by optimizing and automating water consumption, preventing water losses and leaks through real-time measurement, automation, monitoring and analysis, ensuring efficient use of water required in cooling systems at source, and reducing wastewater generation.

Targets 55 Percent Reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions Within Next Five Years

The two-stage project targeted real-time observation and control of the water distribution network serving approximately 380,000 square metres of enclosed space and early detection of losses and leaks in the water distribution network. Through early detection, 40,000 cubic metres of water waste, representing approximately 3 percent of annual water consumption, has been prevented. Under the framework of environmental and climate change and water policies, Turkish Aerospace Industries, the first organization in Turkey to obtain ISO 14064:2018 accreditation certification through Corporate Carbon Footprint verification, aims to reduce direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions from wastewater generation and treatment by 55 percent within the next five years.

Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil, Chief Executive Officer of Turkish Aerospace Industries, shared his views on the 'Green Apple Champion 2022' award. Kotil stated in his remarks that they have undertaken exemplary work that has received recognition from international public opinion on sustainable environmental management and noted: "As the first industrial company with a zero-waste certificate, we have been recognized with another internationally prestigious award through an exemplary initiative that addresses water waste, which is foremost among limited resources worldwide. Through our work to optimize water consumption and provide improvements in automation with digital applications under the project framework, we aim to contribute to the protection of natural resources. By implementing wastewater reduction practices, we will ensure that water resources are managed efficiently and sustainably through holistic approaches. I commend our colleagues who contributed to bringing this award to our company through the 'Water Efficiency in the Aerospace Sector' project they developed."
