Turkish Scientists Develop National Reagent
Assoc. Prof. Yeşim Müge Şahin, Faculty Member at Istanbul Arel University and Director of ArelPOTKAM (Polymer Technologies and Composite Application and Research Center), and her team have completed the first registered patent process and developed a National Reagent. This work is expected to make significant contributions to the global chemical industry and science.
The multidisciplinary patent research involved Istanbul Arel University Faculty Member and ArelPOTKAM Director Assoc. Prof. Yeşim Müge Şahin, Üsküdar University PROMER Research Center Director and Deputy Director Prof. Tunç Çatal and Assistant Professor Vildan Enisoğlu Atalay; Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Chemistry Department Faculty Member Prof. Nihal Onul, Research Assistant Dr. Funda Özkök, and PhD Student Kamala Asgarova.
The reagent was developed through the synthesis of an original molecule, its modelling, and determination of its chemical properties, and was converted into a kit form. The reagent, which makes a significant contribution to the global chemical industry and science, enables precise and colorimetric measurement of Iron (II) Sulfate. The reagent is an innovative product developed entirely with domestic capabilities.

The reagent, which undergoes a specific reaction with Iron (II) Sulfate and serves to determine the presence or quantity of this compound, can be used in the pharmaceutical, chemical, agricultural, farming and biotechnology industries. The developed reagent will also contribute to the determination and quantification of Iron (II) Sulfate, which causes environmental pollution, in many fields such as water systems, wastewater, biological materials, food products, soil samples and synthetic mixtures.International Patent Application Filed
The reagent and kit were introduced to the global chemistry literature for use in laboratories, universities, and for research and development and industrial purposes, particularly in areas where the determination of Iron (II) Sulfate and its quantity is important.
