Sumika Polymer Compounds to Produce Polypropylene in Turkey Sumika Polymer Compounds Turkey (formerly Emaş Grup) will begin manufacturing THERMOFIL HP® (high-performance) polypropylene (PP) compounds for customers in Turkey and countries bordering the Black Sea. Sumika Polymer Compounds (SPC) Turkey is part of Sumika Europe, a subsidiary of Japanese group Sumitomo Chemical Co Ltd., which produces various thermoplastic compounds and polyolefin-based elastomers. SPC Turkey operates facilities in Gemlik, Bursa and Manisa. The Turkish facilities, which joined Sumika in early 2019, bring years of experience in the production of mineral-filled and recycled PP. Additionally, Thermofil™ HP production will begin shortly at the Gemlik plant. With this addition, SPC Turkey's total production capacity will reach 60Kt per year. THERMOFIL HP® is a glass-fibre-reinforced PP compound with properties that enable it to replace polyamides (PA), polybutylene terephtalates (PBT) and long-fibre PP. Thermofil™ HP provides users with advantages including light weight, low cost, low density, high strength and hardness, high impact resistance and ease of processing.
