SABIC Unveils Automotive Grades
SABIC introduced the first automotive-grade materials with mechanically recycled content in its TRUCIRCLE™ circular solutions and service portfolio.
The new resins are SABIC® T2E-3320EH PP compound, a high-flow, low-emission, talc-filled polypropylene (PP); XENOY™ T2NX2500UV resin, an unfilled, UV-stabilized polycarbonate (PC) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blend; and XENOY T2NX5230 resin, a mineral-filled PC/PET blend.
All three materials contain recycled content of up to 29% and deliver performance comparable to existing virgin resins, offering automotive customers new options that could help them reach their sustainability targets.
Abdullah Al-Otaibi, General Director of SABIC ETP and Marketing Solutions, said, "The new TRUCIRCLE materials support the automotive industry's sustainability initiatives by extending the life of plastic waste and helping to increase the value of post-consumer products.
These new products are among the first SABIC resins introduced with mechanically recycled content for potential use in internal and external automotive applications. They can also be complemented by other types of sustainable materials, such as certified renewable products from bio-based content that we are developing. All of these are part of SABIC's acceleration strategy toward a truly circular economy."
Reducing Carbon Footprint
SABIC is bringing these three grades to market to support various new automotive applications. The SABIC T2E-3320EH PP compound features rigidity, low emission and high heat resistance for heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) components not visible in instrument panels, internal and underhood parts. An internal life cycle assessment (LCA) showed that the SABIC T2E-3320EH PP compound, containing 25% recycled PP, delivers a product carbon footprint up to 24% lower compared to the corresponding virgin PP compound.Advertisement
