Polyurethane Ultrafiltration Casting Systems
Polyurethane Ultrafiltration Casting Systems
Polyurethanes are urethane polymers formed as a result of the reaction between diisocyanates and polyols and can be produced through various processes such as prepolymerization and single-stage polymerization [1].
Polyurethane resins are used in a wide variety of applications due to their superior mechanical, electrical, insulation and technological properties [2]. Applications of polyurethane casting resins include; ultrafiltration water treatment systems, electrical-electronic devices, electronic transformers, motors, capacitors, noise reduction filters, and garden and aquarium submersible pumps.
Ultrafiltration is a separation process that is in nature between reverse osmosis and microfiltration, and is widely used in fields such as the chemical industry, metallurgy, paper industry, textiles, leather industry, pharmaceutical industry, and also food and dairy industries [3].
Ultrafiltration membranes are commonly applied in water treatment to remove bacteria and macromolecules, colloidal materials, oil droplets and suspended solids [4].
Two-component polyurethane casting resins developed at the Flokser Kimya R&D center serve as a support mold in purification systems by ensuring that ultrafiltration membranes are placed regularly within the module. Mineral-filled ultrafiltration casting resins with improved flame resistance and electrical insulation properties have additional applications beyond wastewater treatment systems, such as in the manufacture of electrical-electronic devices.
The technical specifications and component mixing ratios of our isocyanate-based, solvent-free two-component casting resin system used in the production of wastewater and various purification filters are given in Table 1, and a visual of the product resulting from casting is given in Figure 1.
Creacase UF 175 is a filler and solvent-free two-component polyurethane casting resin. In our system coded Creacase UF 175 A / Creacase UF 175 B, component B is isocyanate resin while component A serves as polyol and hardener. The fully cured casting product is clear, odorless and hard.

Creacase UF 116 is a mineral-filled, flame-resistant, solvent-free two-component polyurethane casting resin. The fully cured product exhibits good electrical and mechanical properties.
Creacase UF 116 can be used in ultrafiltration systems for wastewater treatment, in the manufacture of electrical-electronic devices, in noise reduction filters, in motors, and in the production of capacitors.
The properties of Creacase UF 116 product are given in Table 2 and a visual of the product resulting from casting is given in Figure 2.
