OTAĞ Closing Meeting Held The closing meeting of the "Graphene and Two-Dimensional Materials Focus Technology Network (OTAĞ)", organized by the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) and in which PAÜ participated with 3 projects, was held. At the meeting, PAÜ was represented by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Necip Atar and Assistant Professor Dr. Cumhur Gökhan Ünlü from the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The closing meeting of the "Graphene and Two-Dimensional Materials Focus Technology Network" (OTAĞ), organized by the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB), was held. The programme held at the SSB was attended by the President of the Presidency of Defence Industries Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir and representatives from the institutions participating in the project. Pamukkale University (PAÜ) was represented at this meeting by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Necip Atar and Assistant Professor Dr. Cumhur Gökhan Ünlü from the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Assistant Professor Dr. Cumhur Gökhan Ünlü, who was invited to the "Electronics/Optoelectronics Focus Working Group" coordinated by ASELSAN for his work in this field, had 3 projects submitted under the title "Sensors" accepted for this project. In the project meetings held with the aim of managing the transformation in defence industry technologies and investing in future technologies, and with the goal of eliminating foreign dependency in technology fields in existing platforms and systems, a total of 248 participants took part, including 114 academics from 54 universities, 91 qualified personnel from 19 companies and researchers from various research centres. Following NATO's 'Graphene Technologies and Defence Applications Expert Meeting' in 2017, focus working groups were initially established in "Electronics/Optoelectronics", "Composites, Protective Coatings and Paints" and "Energy" by the Turkish Presidency of Defence Industries to determine the current state of graphene and two-dimensional materials technology in our country, to address what needs to be done for the topics currently being studied and planned to be studied in the future, and to design complementary studies. In the meetings held over two years, the proposed project subjects were discussed and projects to be implemented in the coming years were determined by the Presidency of Defence Industries. Within the scope of OTAĞ studies conducted under SSB leadership, the outputs of Technology Roadmaps containing technology topics prioritized with collective wisdom are submitted to the Research and Development Panel convened in various periods as needed and are implemented. Additionally, the roadmaps resulting from the OTAĞ study are published on the SSB website. They are formatted as booklets and shared with relevant stakeholders, thus creating a reference source that all institutions/organizations can benefit from in their work in relevant technology fields.

"My 3 Proposed Project Subjects Were Accepted"

Regarding the studies conducted within the scope of OTAĞ of which PAÜ is a stakeholder, Assistant Professor Dr. Cumhur Gökhan Ünlü noted the following: "First discovered in 2004 and awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics to its inventors in 2010, the world's first two-dimensional material, and which has also been produced at our university since 2013, the Turkish Presidency of Defence Industries established the 'Graphene and Two-Dimensional Materials Focus Technology Network (OTAĞ)' in 2019 with the purpose of using single-layer graphene material in accordance with current and future defence needs. I was invited by the Presidency of Defence Industries to these study meetings. The 3 project subjects I presented under the title "Sensors" within the "Electronics/Optoelectronics Focus Working Group" coordinated by ASELSAN were accepted. Following the presentations made, it was stated that in accordance with the matters specified in the final report, the Research and Development projects decided to be supported in order to meet the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces and our security forces will move to the stage of signing with the Presidency of Defence Industries for implementation in the near future," he said.
