Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering faculty member and Department Head Prof. Dr. Engin Burgaz led a 'University-Industry Collaboration Project' developed jointly with Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TUSAŞ) has been approved. In the project where OMÜ will serve as the executing university and TUSAŞ as the client organization, the OMÜ team will include researchers Prof. Dr. Ömer Andaç and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Demircan, and doctoral fellows Murat Özlek and Merve Şehnaz İşyarlar.

Project to be supported by TÜBİTAK

In a statement regarding the project, project director Prof. Dr. Engin Burgaz said, "As the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, since 2010 each of our faculty members has been working diligently to implement university-industry projects. In this context, we applied particularly two years ago to a project call opened by TUSAŞ. I must say with great satisfaction that we decided to submit it to TÜBİTAK as a TÜBİTAK 1505 Project. At the end of this process, our project was deemed worthy of support by TÜBİTAK. I should note here that as a result of the efforts of our doctoral fellows working on the project, particularly during the writing phase, our project reached its final form. At this point, we are very grateful to TUSAŞ and TÜBİTAK, who supported our project." "Scientific data and outputs from the project will lead to the generation of new interdisciplinary projects" Addressing the importance of the project, Prof. Dr. Burgaz emphasized that the work will result in interdisciplinary projects between universities and state institutions, stating, "Particularly, the scientific data to be obtained within the scope of this project will contribute to the development of two doctoral students specialized in aerospace composite materials. More specifically, the scientific data and outputs obtained within the scope of the project will lead to the generation of new interdisciplinary projects among universities and state institutions operating in the field of aerospace composite materials."   Source
