Kimteks Polyurethane Industry and Trade Inc. (KİMPUR), a chemical industry company among Turkey's largest 500 industrial enterprises, has completed the design for a new production facility in Düzce and reached an agreement with PEKİNTAŞ A.Ş. The construction design was developed in collaboration with renowned architect Nevzat Sayın. KİMPUR Board Chairman Leon Mizrahi, KİMPUR CEO Cavidan Karaca, Pekintaş CEO Özhan Olcay and Düzce Project Architect Nevzat Sayın gathered to celebrate the agreement on KİMPUR's Düzce investment focused on sustainability and recycling. An agreement valued at approximately USD 9 million including VAT was finalized with the Pekintaş A.Ş. group for building construction and solar power plant, with the Düzce investment's total investment cost exceeding USD 15 million. The investment in Düzce Gümüşova Organized Industrial Zone, with annual capacity totaling 65,000 tonnes, aims to reach by 2022-2024 a capacity of 50,000 tonnes for existing polyurethane systems, 5,000 tonnes for green product range recycling facility synthesized from PET waste, and an additional 10,000 tonnes production capacity for 'EVA granule feedstock' with polyester polyol.

Sustainability-focused investment

KİMPUR, which manufactures polyurethane systems used in various sectors such as footwear, automotive, furniture, heating-cooling and insulation-construction, is taking important steps towards a sustainable world through its investments. As part of these steps, KİMPUR has partnered with Schmid Pekintaş Solar Energy Systems for solar power plant installation to utilize solar energy, a renewable and clean energy source, in production at the Düzce facility and to develop environmentally friendly solutions. With the KİMPUR solar investment, the company aims to reduce energy costs in production and strengthen its competitive position in export and domestic markets. Within the scope of sustainability targets, focusing on recycling at the new production facility in Düzce, KİMPUR aims to meet approximately 55% of total electricity consumption through this investment while reducing annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 679 tonnes.

"We are increasing our production capacity"

KİMPUR Board Chairman Leon Mizrahi stated that with the new 65,000-tonne capacity investment in Düzce, they have significantly increased their production capacities and said: "With our confidence in our country's future, we continue to invest. While leading the transformation in our sector in line with global sustainability, circular economy and clean energy use, we are expanding our scale and strengthening our export and competitive capabilities in every respect with our new investment where we have substantially increased production capacity."
