Huntsman's New CASTECH™ Dosing System

Huntsman's new CASTECH™ metering system adds recycled materials to the mix to create sustainable hot-cast polyurethane elastomers. Huntsman has developed innovative new equipment that can be integrated with CASTECH™ machines to add up to 25% recycled content by weight to hot-cast polyurethane elastomer systems. In line with customers' sustainability goals, Huntsman's new filler metering system can be screwed onto existing CASTECH™ machines, enabling the addition of recycled content at various percentages to TECNOTHANE® engineering elastomer systems. Using the new equipment, customers can choose to add fillers made from various materials, including recycled rubber, solid PU and TPU, and fibers. Recycled materials can also vary in density and size depending on requirements. Huntsman's CASTECH™ machines are popular among industrial component manufacturers. The machines are a flexible, low-maintenance equipment solution used to efficiently cast compact polyurethane elastomers and microcellular elastomer foams from any type of isocyanate and chain extender combination. The result is durable components optimized to perform in demanding industrial and logistics applications such as wheels, pulleys and cylinders for mining equipment, warehouse vehicles and even roller coaster rides in amusement parks. To preserve overall part integrity, Huntsman's new CASTECH™ filler metering system is designed to minimize the risk of air bubble formation as recycled fillers are added. Including recovered fillers in engineering elastomer systems can lead to trapped air that may have a detrimental effect on component quality. Manufacturers using Huntsman's new equipment innovation can safely meter recycled mix into any of the three components combined to make Huntsman's TECNOTHANE® hot-cast elastomers. After mixing with the system, the recycled content flows freely into the mold along with the rest of the system and bonds well with the matrix.
