Huntsman Develops Bio-Based Polyurethane
Huntsman Develops Bio-Based Polyurethane for Plant-Based Shoe Soles
Huntsman's footwear specialists have begun work on a new production innovation to be developed by Keen. Huntsman will develop bio-based polyurethanes for a plant-based sports shoe series to be developed by Keen. Huntsman's specially formulated bio-based polyurethane system, which contains a by-product derived from agricultural processing, was used in a plant-based sports shoe by Keen's advanced concept team.
The polyurethane system produced by Huntsman has a lower carbon footprint compared to petroleum-based alternatives currently available and used in shoe manufacturing. Based on Huntsman's Daltoped® S polyurethane technology platform, the system was developed at Huntsman's footwear center in Belgium and is a custom sole solution created specifically for Keen.
The system delivers performance comparable to conventional systems in terms of flexibility, rebound, hydrolysis resistance, comfort and durability. However, it is fully aligned with the brand's commitment to incorporating clean, environmentally conscious, high-performance technologies into its footwear.
