Evonik Launches ORTEGOL® 700 Series Evonik has introduced the ORTEGOL® 700 series of polyurethane additives to significantly improve the final quality of compressed flexible foams. The new additives enable compressed mattresses to recover much faster and return to their original volume. The ORTEGOL® 700 series is also designed to enhance the final performance of compressed foams, particularly after prolonged storage and transport periods. Evonik Head of Polyurethane Additives Division Ralph Marquardt stated, "The market for compressed flexible foams has grown steadily in recent years. Since the COVID-19 pandemic saw 'Bed in a Box' sales really explode, consumers were able to purchase new mattresses online for delivery in boxes only. Therefore, improving the compression properties of polyurethane bedding stock foams is more important than ever. To help the industry capitalize on this very high demand, our technical teams have been working hard to develop and rapidly bring these game-changing solutions to market," he said. Shipments of compressed foams to finished mattress and foam roll manufacturers have also increased significantly to meet the new demand. However, recovery of compressed foams after shipment to production-ready condition could take a long time. In most cases, foams do not always fully recover, deformed foams are unsuitable for mattress production, and create waste. Additionally, today's consumers expect products to be ready straight out of the box. Any foam deformation resulting from prolonged storage in boxes typically means mattresses are returned, which leads to significantly higher scrap rates, costly return shipping fees, and lower likelihood of consumer repurchase. Evonik has developed and launched the ORTEGOL® 700, ORTEGOL® 701, and ORTEGOL® 702 additives to support the industry in overcoming these challenges. Source
