Expansion of specialty amine production facility increases the company's capacity to supply innovative amine-based additives for polyurethane and epoxy applications.
Evonik officially opened the expanded section of its specialty amine production facility in Nanjing on 21 April 2026. This investment significantly strengthens the company's capacity to supply innovative amine-based additives for polyurethane and epoxy applications, supports future market development, and advances the company's long-term global strategy.
Asia in general, and China in particular, represent important growth markets for Evonik due to continuing consumption increases across different application areas and the shift towards more sustainable solutions. Advanced materials such as polyurethane foams and epoxy curing agents are playing an increasingly important role in these changing market dynamics.
The advanced specialty amine portfolio production capacity not only serves Asia; it also strengthens the company's global manufacturing network and raw material access.
Evonik Executive Board Chairman Christian Kullmann stated, "This opening signifies more than the commissioning of new production capacity. It demonstrates Evonik's long-term commitment to China. By strengthening local production, sustainability, and innovation, we are creating a robust platform for future growth together with our business partners."
Specialty amines are key additives in the production of polyurethane foams used in automotive, construction, furniture, and consumer products, and are also important curing agents for epoxy systems in various applications such as protective coatings and adhesives. New generation reactive amines can increase process efficiency and product performance while meeting growing market demand for higher energy efficiency, low odor, and reduced VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions.
With expanded production capacity, the Nanjing facility is now equipped for commercial-scale production of advanced reactive specialty amines for high-performance polyurethane and epoxy applications subject to increasingly stringent emission standards. These developments support more sustainable production practices while contributing to the health and welfare of production personnel, application specialists, and end users.
Evonik Greater China President Fuliang Xia said, "The successful commissioning of the expansion investment significantly strengthens our strategic presence and competitive position in China. We look forward to working closely with our local customers to advance high-quality and sustainable industrial development in the region."
Operating entirely on green electricity, the Nanjing facility demonstrates Evonik's commitment to sustainable and responsible production within the Nanjing Jiangbei New Material Technology Park. The company's long-standing cooperation with the Nanjing government is highlighted by joint participation in both the groundbreaking and opening ceremonies. This investment reinforces Evonik's global strategy of building efficient production centers across different regions, including China, thereby enhancing competitive strength, while contributing to regional industrial development and the green transformation of the chemical sector.
