DowAksa Breaks Ground on New Integrated Facility

DowAksa Lays Foundation for New Integrated Facility The foundation-laying ceremony for DowAksa's new integrated facility, to be built on a 117,000 square-meter site in Yalova, has taken place. The foundation-laying ceremony for DowAksa's newly planned integrated facility was attended by T.C. Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, Yalova Governor Muammer Erol, Yalova Member of Parliament Meliha Akyol, Yalova Deputy Mayor Mustafa Tutuk, Akkök Holding Board Chair Raif Ali Dinçkök, Akkök Holding Chief Executive Officer and DowAksa Vice Chair Ahmet Dördüncü, and DowAksa Chief Executive Officer Douglas Parks, along with senior executives of the company.

New Integrated Facility to Begin Production in 2023

The new integrated facility to be built by DowAksa on a 117,000 square-meter site in Yalova will increase Turkey's share in industrial sectors using carbon fiber. The facility is expected to begin production at full capacity in 2023. It was also stated that the facility would create employment for 500,000 people in Yalova.

"DowAksa Will Increase Production Capacity 2.5-Fold and Enhance Its Contributions to Our Country"

T.C. Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank made remarks at the ceremony. Varank stated: "An important investment is being implemented to achieve Turkey's goal of becoming a strategic production hub. DowAksa will increase its production capacity 2.5-fold and heighten its contributions to our country. I wish for this exemplary new facility to be completed swiftly. The world's most cost-effective and best-performing carbon fiber is being produced by DowAksa in Yalova." Member of Parliament Meliha Akyol also noted that advances in high technology will increase Turkey's exports.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, DowAksa Board Vice Chair Ahmet Dördüncü said: "This investment will not only provide opportunities for value-added exports and employment, but will also support our country's self-sufficiency in strategic sectors. We will continue to develop innovative composite solutions with our high-performance carbon fibers and invest to meet the rapidly growing demands of our local and global business partners." Chief Executive Officer Douglas Parks noted that thanks to their R&D capabilities, they have the ability to produce special composite profiles that enable larger wind turbine blades and higher energy efficiency. Expressing pride in making such an important investment in the company's tenth year of operation, Parks stated that they will continue their efforts to provide such solutions to all other strategic business sectors they serve.

Rising Demands in Wind Energy Projects Will Be Met

Yalova was chosen as a strategic location for the new investment to ensure full integration with DowAksa's supply chain and existing production facility in terms of raw materials, energy and other requirements. With this investment, expected to reach full capacity in 2024, a significant portion of carbon fiber spars for wind turbine blades will be manufactured in Turkey. This will enable the domestic market to meet rising demands in wind energy projects. The new integrated facility will also meet the needs of sectors using carbon fiber composite materials in Turkey as well as the rapidly growing global automotive industry.

Offers Greater Design Freedom, Lightweight and Cost Advantages

DowAksa's pultruded profiles based on carbon fiber-reinforced polyurethane resin, which are exported to many countries around the world and produced to enhance Turkey's competitiveness, are being used in next-generation wind turbine blades. The pultrusion manufacturing technology specially developed by DowAksa for longer and larger blades provides the international wind energy sector with greater design freedom, lightweight and cost advantages.
