Dow Develops "RENUVA™ Mattress Recycling Program"

Dow Polyurethanes, a business unit of Dow (NYSE: Dow), is taking a significant step forward in the RENUVA ™ Mattress Recycling Program as part of plans to establish an industrial-scale production facility at Orrion Chemicals Orgaform in Semoy, France. The RENUVA ™ Mattress Recycling Program will convert discarded mattress foam and waste into raw materials (polyols) through chemical recycling. The new raw material can subsequently be used in flexible or rigid foam products in applications such as building insulation boards and in the production of new mattresses. Approximately 30 million mattresses are discarded each year in Europe. This new initiative will help enable a circular economy for polyurethanes by allowing used products to be recycled. It will support the EU's goal of recycling 65% of municipal waste by 2030. This new development is based on processes announced by Dow in 2017 and the existing partnership with turnkey installation provider H&S Anlagentechnik.
