DOMO Fills Product Gap in Black-to-Transparent Laser Welding
DOMO Chemicals has developed a new family of laser-weldable PA66-based black plastics, a technology increasingly used for joining thermoplastic components. DOMO has launched its new laser-transparent Technyl® STAR AF 219 V30 black LT.
Laser welding is becoming one of the most cost-effective technologies for deep welding of polymer materials in many industries and is used particularly in the automotive market, electronic circuits, Internet of Things applications and consumer goods for developing complex and small-shaped plastic components. Among the key benefits of this technology are speed, flexibility, precision and superior appearance. An additional advantage of laser welding is low-dust technology, which is important high performance for electrical and electronic applications.
Vincent de Givry, Marketing Director of DOMO Engineering Materials, stated: "With such a concentrated heat source, laser welding can be performed at high welding speeds in thin materials. Thicker materials can produce narrow, deep welds between square-edged components. Our expanded Technyl® STAR AF 219 V30 black LT product family will be significant for the electric vehicle market, where there is growing demand for sensor housings, enclosures and control units."
