Covestro Opens New Production Line
Covestro Launches New Production Line for Desmodur® 15 Prepolymers
Covestro has begun production of Desmodur® 15 prepolymers in Barcelona, Spain. With the new production line, the company is meeting rising demand for high-performance elastomers. The production line also enables the company to serve an expanded range of highly demanding applications.
Philip Bahke, Head of Covestro Elastomers Operations, said: "With this strategic investment, Covestro aims to further increase the capacity and reliability of global supply of Desmodur® 15-based products."
Sucheta Govil, Chief Commercial Officer at Covestro, stated: "In addition to meeting our customers' demand, Covestro's Barcelona facility has been operating entirely on renewable energy since early 2022." She added: "This approach is part of our goal to reduce our environmental impact while providing our customers with greater access to our solutions and specialty products."
Covestro Elastomers President Thomas Braig said: "In parallel with the ongoing expansion of our NDI capacities in the Asia-Pacific region with our Map Ta Phut facility in Thailand, we are opening a new production unit for our Desmodur® 15 prepolymers in Barcelona." He added: "This new production unit will help us support our customers' growth in the high-quality cast polyurethane applications segment."
Elastomers based on Desmodur® 15 prepolymers, which combine the highest mechanical properties with dynamic load-bearing capacity, are not only among the strongest cast polyurethanes on the market but are also as easy to process as conventional prepolymers.
