Covestro Launches TPU with Improved Signal Penetration
The new mobile communication standard 5G is advancing steadily. This development is also increasing demand for materials that facilitate and provide high transmission speeds for 5G signals.
This includes the new Desmopan 7000 thermoplastic polyurethane from Covestro. It exhibits high transparency for 5G frequencies, reducing signal loss. For this reason, the product is well-suited for 5G applications such as protective cases for mobile phones, for example. Compared to the previous 4G standard, 5G technology offers higher network speeds, shorter data latency, lower power consumption, and more stable connections. For users to benefit from all these advantages, devices must be equipped with housings that transmit signals with as little interference as possible. This is especially true for thin protective cases on smartphones. In this application, the low dielectric constant (Dk) and low dielectric loss (Df) of the new TPU series prove to be very beneficial. Additionally, products in the Desmopan 7000 series are known for their natural shock and vibration absorption properties, which are typical characteristics of TPU plastics. They also feature superior abrasion resistance over a wide temperature range and good elasticity across all hardness grades. For this reason, mobile phones equipped with these materials are also well protected against mechanical impact. In product development, the good adhesion of TPU to other plastics such as polycarbonate or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) is also an advantage.Advertisement
