Covestro Begins Elastomer Production Covestro has started production of naphthalene diisocyanate (NDI), a raw material for Vulkollan®, at its newly built facility in the Map Ta Phut plant in Thailand. The foundation for the facility was laid two years ago, at the end of 2020. The upper-mid-range investment in the double-digit millions of euros represents part of Covestro's various investment initiatives in polyurethane raw materials for cast applications. Sucheta Govil, President of Sales at Covestro, stated: "We believe the cast elastomer market is growing and we want to meet increasing demand. With this new production facility, we have achieved a significant advancement in our global infrastructure and strengthened our presence in high-performance elastomers in the Asia-Pacific region. This investment also enables us to serve our customers better, improve our customer service, and support the growth of applications and industries with top-tier performance requirements." Thomas Braig, Head of Commercial Operations Elastomers, said: "The commissioning of our Map Ta Phut facility marks the final step in a series of investments made to support the Vulkollan® brand in the elastomer sector. The product range for which elastomers produced from this raw material are suitable includes various products for the engineering industry, such as forklift wheels, roller coaster wheels, couplings and seals.
