COIM Group Announces New Major Projects

New Projects from COIM Group COIM Group is a globally operating multinational Italian company founded in 1962 with 5 production facilities across 4 continents and 20 locations worldwide, serving numerous broad application areas. The company manufactures polyester polyols, polyurethanes and resins for formulations in the composite materials and coatings sectors, aiming to improve the daily lives of many end users. COIM Group is pleased to share some new projects currently under development in its research and development laboratories. The first project concerns our bio-based product for use in the footwear sector. It is a bio TPU consisting of 3 main components (Laripur RS): • Polyester polyols (100% bio-based), • Chain extenders (100% bio-based) and • Isocyanate (currently fossil-based). By formulating these 3 components in the correct proportions, COIM Group is able to produce bio-TPU with a high level of renewable raw material content. The second project concerns 2 products coded with the short code RBL, which stands for "Rubber Like" in English. Both products are polyester polyol-based. Applications include: • Midsoles in occupational safety footwear, • Outsoles in sports shoes, • Outsoles in casual footwear with high performance. Advantages and performance of RBL products: • They have significantly lower density compared to standard products currently used in the market. • They achieve approximately 20% material savings. • While standard products are used at densities between 0.50 g/cc - 0.55 g/cc, RBL products can be easily used between 0.42 g/cc - 0.45 g/cc. • They have excellent hydrolysis resistance and demonstrate excellent performance particularly in very cold climate conditions. • They have excellent mechanical strength at -20 degrees compared to standard products. • They provide excellent slip resistance on both wet and dry surfaces. • Due to their high elasticity and high energy, their rebound performance is 75% better than standard products (shown in the chart). • In addition to these properties, they are also fully compatible for use with all PU/TPU/RUBBER outsoles.
