Most recently, Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ Çelebioğlu, Director of the Institute of Graduate Programs at TED Üniversitesi and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was selected as an Associate Fellow by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) for her contributions to the advancement of aeronautics through her work on flow control, fluid dynamics and high-speed flows. During her doctoral studies in the United States, Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ Çelebioğlu carried out hypersonic quiet wind tunnel designs within the scope of a project conducted with the support of aircraft manufacturer Boeing and the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). Among the 100 individuals selected as AIAA Associate Fellows, she was one of five residing outside the United States. The awards for academics and aeronautics sector professionals selected as Associate Fellows will be presented at the AIAA SciTech Forum to be held in Maryland on 24 January. AIAA, the world's largest technical organization in the field of aeronautics with 95 institutional members and 30,000 individual members from 91 countries, is presided over by Laura McGill. In a press statement on the matter, she said: "I congratulate everyone selected as an AIAA Associate Fellow for 2023. All selected scientists have made highly significant contributions to aeronautics whose impact will continue in the coming period. Using their expertise and creativity, they have produced solutions to complex problems emerging in the aeronautics and space community. While serving as role models for the advancement of aeronautics through their experience, dedication and service, they are also shaping the future of the sector."
One of five selected from outside the United States
Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ Çelebioğlu, Director of the Institute of Graduate Programs at TED Üniversitesi and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, selected as a 2023 AIAA Associate Fellow from Turkey, shared her thoughts in the following words: "I am proud to be one of 100 individuals selected as an Associate Fellow this year by AIAA and the sole representative from Turkey, representing our country globally through the projects I have carried out in the field of aeronautics. As both a researcher and educator, I continue my work and projects in aeronautics and defence. I will continue to nurture these subjects among my students and train new generations in mechanical and aeronautics engineering." Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ Çelebioğlu completed her undergraduate and master's education in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Middle East Technical University. She received her doctorate in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering from Rutgers University in the United States. She worked as a research engineer at the United States Air Force Academy. Since returning to Turkey in 2008, she has held faculty positions at TOBB ETÜ and TED Üniversitesi, while managing projects supported by organizations such as TÜBİTAK, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Development, the Ministry of Industry, and TUSAŞ, and has taken part in European Union projects. Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ, founder of the TOBB ETÜ Hydro Water Turbine Design and Test Centre in the field of Clean Energy, also served as principal investigator on the MİLHES project, which resulted in the design and commissioning of a hydroelectric power plant using indigenous resources for the first time. In addition to her current duties as Director of the Institute of Graduate Programs and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at TED Üniversitesi, she continues her research on Energy and Aeronautics with her team. She is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Heat Science and Technology, member of the TÜBİTAK USETEG advisory board, executive committee of the European Union COST action, and Board Member of the Heat Science and Technology Society.
