Türkiye and Algeria to Cooperate on Energy and Mining

Turkey and Algeria to Expand Energy and Mining Cooperation Turkey and Algeria are preparing to develop new projects for cooperation in energy and mining sectors, including oil exploration and discovery, petrochemical industry development, and electricity generation and distribution. Energy Minister Muhammed Arkab met with Turkey's Ambassador to Algeria Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş. The meeting was announced through a written statement from Algeria's Energy Ministry. At this meeting, Energy Minister Arkab addressed "opportunities for cooperation in energy and mining sectors, including oil exploration and discovery, petrochemical industry development, and electricity generation and distribution." The meeting also covered preparations for the Turkey-Algeria Joint Economic Commission (JEC) to be conducted under the leadership of Algeria's Energy Ministry. Ambassador Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş made comments to AA regarding the meeting. Göktaş stated: "After approximately 10 years, the Turkey-Algeria Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meeting will be held in Algeria in November. The JEC meeting, which will be conducted under the co-presidency of energy ministers, will be followed by an energy forum bringing together Turkish and Algerian energy companies. This way, our companies in the energy sector will have important networking opportunities." Göktaş also noted that "the 11th Turkey-Algeria JEC meeting will ensure that bilateral relations are addressed comprehensively and advanced further."  

Turkish-Algerian Companies to Establish Petrochemical Plant

A groundbreaking ceremony for a petrochemical plant project in Adana, a partnership between Rönesans Holding from Turkey and Algeria's national oil company Sonatrach, is expected to take place this weekend. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to attend the groundbreaking ceremony. Sonatrach will supply 450 tons of propane gas to the plant to be used as raw material in the production of polypropylene, a substance frequently used in industry. According to statements made, the project, which is expected to cost 1.4 billion dollars, will be 66 percent owned by Rönesans Holding and 34 percent by Sonatrach.
