TPAO to Search for Oil in Mersin Territorial Waters
The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources granted Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) oil exploration licenses at 6 separate locations in Mersin's territorial waters, covering approximately 174,000 hectares.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources' General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs published in today's Official Gazette, TPAO filed an application for an exploration license on 13 October 2021 to search for oil in 6 fields in Mersin's territorial waters.
According to the published announcement, the ministry, after reviewing the license application for 6 fields whose areas range between 4,450 and 57,164 hectares and total 173,902 hectares, granted TPAO an oil exploration license valid for 8 years from the date of publication of this decision in the Official Gazette, pursuant to Articles 6, 7 and 22 of Law No. 6491 on Turkish Petroleum.
