First Domestic Flight with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Completed Pegasus Airlines, which manages its operations and activities with a "sustainable environment" approach, conducted its first domestic flight using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) supplied by Petrol Ofisi between İzmir and İstanbul. Pegasus Airlines, which manages its operations and activities with a "sustainable environment" approach, conducted its first domestic flight using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on Tuesday, 1 March 2022, between İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport. Pegasus, which sources SAF fuel from Neste Corporation through Petrol Ofisi, will operate one daily domestic flight from İzmir using SAF throughout March.

"Reducing the Carbon Footprint from the Aviation Sector Is of Critical Importance"

Pegasus Airlines CEO Mehmet T. Nane, emphasizing that reducing the carbon footprint from the aviation sector is of critical importance on the path to sustainable aviation: "In accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement, to which Turkey is also a party, a 50% reduction in carbon emissions is targeted by 2030. One of the important factors that can make this possible is increasing the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel. Since 2019, we have been operating certain international flights with SAF. We have extended this practice to our domestic flights through cooperation with Petrol Ofisi. As Pegasus Airlines, we feel proud and honoured to conduct our first domestic flight with SAF, which is produced from environmentally friendly and sustainable sources with low carbon emissions." He continued: "In the medium term, we aim to continue our work in fleet renewal and offsetting projects; in the long term, we aim to continue our efforts in new technology aircraft and carbon capture technologies. In line with the IATA decision we support for "Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050", we will continue to work with all our strength to support sustainable aviation."

"Petrol Ofisi, Serving Today and the Future with Advanced Technology Products"

Petrol Ofisi CEO Selim Şiper, emphasizing that Petrol Ofisi is a sector leader with superior product and service quality in all areas: "Both on land and in maritime and aviation fuels, we provide advanced solutions to today's and tomorrow's needs through our advanced technology products that reflect our sustainability approach. Since 2019, with our new generation Active-3 technology fuels, we have been supplying fuels that clean engines in automobiles and commercial vehicles, extend their lifespan, deliver higher performance and fuel savings, and minimize emission values. Likewise, in shipping, we conducted the first supply in Turkey of new generation Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) in October 2019, developed in line with IMO criteria established for global sustainability goals. In aviation fuels, with our PO Air brand; we are an IATA member and provide aviation fuel supply at 72 airports in Turkey, delivering services to over 200 airlines in accordance with international standards. With our extensive infrastructure, high SEC-G standards, experience and expertise, we support the aviation sector, and with our zero errors and zero delays principle, we serve approximately 250,000 aircraft annually without interruption. As one of the country's most important values born in these lands and an industry leader, we consider it our duty to contribute to Turkey today and in the future, as we have in the past. Therefore, we feel pride and honour in supplying fuel for the first domestic flight using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) conducted by Pegasus Airlines, one of Turkey's aviation's most important values."

The Path to Sustainable Aviation

Pegasus, conducting its first domestic flight with SAF, a sustainable version of Jet A and Jet A-1 fuel and a clean alternative to fossil jet fuels, is undertaking numerous initiatives on the path to sustainable aviation. In line with IATA's "Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050" commitment, Pegasus, which ranks among the pioneering airlines making this commitment globally; has also set interim targets for 2030. Shaping all its work in line with this target, Pegasus, as part of its strategy to comprise its entire fleet of Airbus NEO aircraft by 2025, projects fuel consumption savings of 15-17% compared to previous generation aircraft. Pegasus, which places importance on reducing carbon emissions at their source; is also conducting emission reduction work at the source of the process through operational measures such as fleet modernization, weight reduction work on aircraft, and route optimization. Within the framework of the principle of transparency, Pegasus, which began sharing monthly emissions indicators from its flights on its investor relations website as of October 2021; plans all these efforts in parallel with its governance strategy in the field of Sustainability (ESG) and in a manner that will support its outcomes.
