Petronas and Idemitsu to Develop Sustainable Aviation Fuel

PETRONAS and Idemitsu Kosan Co. Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop capabilities across the supply chain and optimize the pathway to the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) market. This represents a significant step in both companies' ongoing commitment to producing lower-carbon energy solutions for their customers worldwide. As outlined in the MOU, PETRONAS and Idemitsu will focus on a feasibility study to provide a stable and efficient supply chain for the sustainable development of SAF by examining biomass feedstock opportunities, conducting production cost analysis, and enhancing security. This study will also include investigation of the supply potential of non-edible oil-bearing trees suitable for SAF production, such as Pongamia and Jatropha. Additionally, both companies will work to establish a robust SAF sales and distribution network to ensure accessibility of SAF to airlines.
