Mitsui Chemicals Increases Biocatalyst Production Capacity
Mitsui Chemicals announced that Polaris Chemicals, Inc., a subsidiary established in 2021, has begun production of biocatalysts used in acrylamide manufacturing.
Acrylamide, a raw material for polyacrylamide, is used as a paper strengthening agent, crude oil recovery agent and flocculant in wastewater treatment, among other applications.
Due to continuously rising global demand for acrylamide, Mitsui Chemicals' biocatalysts used in acrylamide production have gained strong reputation among manufacturers worldwide. This situation has led to increased sales and the need for expanded production capacity.
The related production capacity increase will be implemented through Polaris Chemicals, Inc., a company established between Mitsui Chemicals and Kasano Kosan Corporation (Wakayama; CEO: KASANO Yasuteru). Kasano Kosan is a customer of Mitsui Chemicals for acrylamide, taurine and other products. The new production facilities at Polaris will leverage the latest technologies and expertise from Omuta Works, Mitsui Chemicals' primary facility for these operations.
