Lummus Launches Upgraded Helixchanger Technology

Lummus Technology, a global supplier of process technologies and value-driven energy solutions, announced the launch of Helixchanger® 2.0, its latest heat exchanger technology. The upgrade enhances the original system, which has been in service for over 20 years and has 7,000 installations worldwide. Rutger Theunissen, Vice President of Services and Materials Management at Lummus Technology, said: "The Helixchanger system is the industry standard, and we are raising the bar further in terms of performance and reliability. Our customers' informed approach to energy consumption and efficiency drove us to develop an advanced design that will save them operating costs in many ways." The improvements in Helixchanger 2.0 technology continue to reduce fouling on the shell side and eliminate vibration from the original design, while delivering enhanced efficiency and reduced pressure drop. These operational efficiencies translate to longer run times and lower cleaning and operating costs. The first-generation Helixchanger® heat exchanger features proven quarter-shaped split plates that create a helical flow pattern on the shell side. This configuration provides operational and capital advantages including, among others, extending run time between cleaning campaigns for crude preheat exchangers, reducing capital costs at a petrochemical facility, and improving energy efficiency of feed/wastewater cooling towers.
