BASF and Omya Enter Global Partnership for Cementing and Drilling Applications in the Oil and Gas Industry
BASF and Omya are joining forces to develop and commercialize BasoSphere™ hollow glass microspheres for cementing applications in the oil and gas industry. Combining unique shape and size combinations with lower density and higher compressive strength, BasoSphere is a product family of engineered hollow glass microspheres that offers superior strength relative to density ratios and prevents fluid loss and formation damage during well completion. To be commercialized by BASF only.
The innovative hollow glass microspheres combine BASF's chemical and application expertise in oil and gas cementing products with Omya's experience in filler manufacturing.
Damien Caby, Senior Vice President of BASF Oilfield Chemicals and Mining Solutions, said: "We are excited to partner with Omya on this lightweight cementing solution that develops products we deliver to the global oil and gas industry. BasoSphere hollow glass microspheres help reduce CO2 emissions during oil and gas well completion by lowering the amount of cement required."
