Turkish Professor Develops Light Wavelength Analyzer Device
Turkish professor develops important study: produces light wavelength analyzer device
A light wavelength analyzer (monochromator) device was manufactured for the first time in Turkey by Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Yakuphanoğlu, faculty member at Fırat University.
A light wavelength analyzer (monochromator) device was manufactured for the first time in Turkey by Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Yakuphanoğlu, faculty member of the Department of Physics at Fırat University's Faculty of Science.
Following developing technology, Prof. Dr. Yakuphanoğlu developed an optical system that mechanically separates light into wavelengths using the monochromator device he produced. Prof. Dr. Yakuphanoğlu stated that white light with wavelengths between 400 nanometers and 1,100 nanometers can be reduced to a wavelength resolution of 0.1 nanometers through the device, and noted that the device can be used for Raman and UV-VIS spectrometer equipment.
Stating that the device is manufactured only abroad, Prof. Dr. Yakuphanoğlu said that he conducted all calibration tests of the monochromator device he produced in his own laboratory and compared it with existing standard values, and that products can be easily produced using the monochromator device.
Saying that the monochromator device he produced is a device used in all optical systems, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Yakuphanoğlu stated: "The device we produced is called a monochromator. A monochromator is an optical system that mechanically separates light into wavelengths. For example, you have white light. White light has a wavelength between 400 nanometers and 1,100 nanometers; if you want to obtain these wavelengths one by one, you need to pass this white light through a device we call a monochromator.
Our monochromator is an optical system capable of separating light into all wavelengths between 400 nanometers and 1,100 nanometers with a wavelength resolution of 0.1 nanometers. You can use this optical system especially in different devices such as Raman spectroscopy, UV-VIS spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and photoelectron spectroscopy. If I want to produce a photoluminescence device, what I mean by photoluminescence is that when light falls on a material, it emits light in a certain color. I want to measure the color of this emission, that is, its wavelength, and for this we need a monochromator. We first direct the light onto the material; after the light is reflected from the material, it is separated into wavelengths. We can easily analyze the existing wavelength spectrum with the spectrometer we produced," he said.
"We will obtain the patent from either Turkish Patent Institute, Europe or America"
Stating that the monochromator device is manufactured only abroad, Prof. Dr. Yakuphanoğlu said: "To give examples of the devices we know, it is widely used in UV-VIS spectroscopy. It is widely used in X-Ray photoelectron devices. This device is a fundamental component of an optical system; in other words, if you want to produce a UV-VIS spectrometer and want to measure how much a material absorbs light—its absorbance, optical transmittance, and reflectance—you definitely need a monochromator. This device we have produced is currently in the patent writing phase. After we write the patent, we will obtain the patent from either Turkish Patent Institute, Europe or America. With the monochromator we have produced, you can easily manufacture a spectrometer. All calibration tests of the device were conducted in our FYTRONIX calibration laboratory and were compared with existing standard values. After comparing with these values, we can now very easily produce a product with our monochromator," he said.Advertisement
