Siemens Turkey - TAÜ Collaboration Siemens Turkey and Turkish-German University (TAÜ) have signed a partnership to contribute to the development of digital industry applications. The company, which offers part-time work opportunities and subsequent employment prospects to TAÜ students, has opened its digital industry laboratory for use. Siemens Turkey continues its collaborations established to contribute to the development of technology and innovation in our country and to train qualified generations in this field. Most recently, the company has entered into a partnership with Turkish-German University (TAÜ), through which it will particularly contribute to the development of digital industry applications. Hüseyin Gelis, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Turkey, commenting on the TAÜ collaboration, stated: "We are an engineering and technology company. We view contributing to the development of innovation, which is our most important area of competence, as one of our responsibilities. With awareness of the importance of university-business world partnerships, particularly to address the shortage of experts in this field in our country, we are pleased about our collaboration beginning with Turkish-German University."

Noting that the level TAÜ has reached in a short time is a source of hope for the future, Gelis expressed their desire to increase their collaborative efforts in research in the coming years, alongside the development of TAÜ's research capacity in the educational collaborations they are currently implementing.

 

Digital industry laboratory opened

  The opening ceremony of the Siemens Digital Industry Laboratory established at TAÜ took place on Monday, 13 June at the TAÜ Beykoz Campus. The opening was attended by TAÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Aysel Uzuntaş, TAÜ General Coordinator Prof. Dr. Ferit Küçükay, and Siemens Turkey Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Hüseyin Gelis. Hüseyin Gelis, stating that they have established an educational laboratory at the university where practical lessons in industrial automation and digital twin technologies will be conducted, explained the importance of this laboratory as follows: "When we consider the fields that are directing the present and the future, we see that digital industries rank among the top. However, in this field it is very important that theoretical knowledge is supported with practical applications. Students, who are the practitioners of the future in this field, need to acquire a strong foundation early on. This foundation contributes significantly to the development of young people who can produce innovative ideas with the necessary insight and equipment to develop synthesis skills and thus produce new answers to new problems." The Siemens Digital Industry Laboratory, whose opening was held, aims to train leading engineers in the field of Digital Automation in Turkey through educational programs from various disciplines that will provide infrastructure support. Laboratories contribute to work in many fields that are becoming digitalized and ready to be automated, particularly in engineering, and enable qualified personnel to conduct their work in relevant fields. In messages delivered by Erdem Alptekin, Research and Development Center Director and IT Director of Siemens Turkey, at the opening, valuable information was provided on the Siemens research and development ecosystem as well as how candidate engineers could enter the ecosystem. Providing information on both the global and local research and development power and infrastructure of Siemens, Erdem Alptekin stated: "Research and development is one of the areas where we are strongest. The budget allocated by the company to research and development worldwide is USD 4.9 billion, and more than 42,000 competent and dynamic engineers work in research and development alone. As an organization that holds patents in innovation competency with 4,480 inventions and has 2,520 patent applications, we are one of the leading companies in this field. The company's research and development spending investment is approximately EUR 55 million, and with 900 research and development employees, we continue our activities in three research and development centers in Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir." According to a company statement, the company, which conducts numerous collaborations with various universities, offers part-time work opportunities each year to fourth-year Mechatronics or Computer Science students of TAÜ under the Part-Time Student Program and provides employment opportunities in the research and development department following their graduation. Experts from Siemens Turkey, who support the content of Mechatronics and Computer Science course curricula, participate in courses related to their respective fields. Through this, the company contributes to increased interest in STEM within the scope of the TAÜ-Siemens Robotics Program and enables university students to graduate with greater competence by gaining practical work experience. Continuing its efforts for the establishment of the TAÜ Mechanical Engineering Department Basic Internship Laboratory in the coming year, the company is also continuing its activities regarding the provision of the TAÜ - Siemens Digital Technologies certificate program and Master program at the Siemens Kartal campus.
