Işık University to Establish Construction Laboratory

Işık Üniversitesi, through the Feyziye Mektepleri Vakfı foundation, is establishing a fully equipped 'Civil Engineering Central Laboratory' at its Şile Campus. Construction of the laboratory, to be built within the Faculty of Engineering, is planned to begin in the final quarter of 2018. The laboratory will come into full operation in 2020 and will become one of Turkey's major reference laboratories. The Civil Engineering Central Laboratory, an student-focused research facility, is designed to encompass teaching and research in structural and earthquake engineering, as well as materials science, soil mechanics and hydraulics. The design creates a shared space where students and faculty interact in the same environment. The laboratory will consist of two blocks connected by a bridge. The Central Laboratory will embody Turkey's accumulated scientific expertise and practical capabilities, and is designed with current experimental equipment and facilities to meet the needs of students, faculty and industry. It will be equipped with features not found in similar educational institutions. Prof. Dr. Ercan Solak, Vice Rector and Head of the Civil Engineering Department at Işık Üniversitesi, emphasized that the laboratory will make a significant contribution to civil engineering students' education. "We have designed the laboratory to ensure our students receive comprehensive training and preparation, and to support our researchers' scientific work. Additionally, it will serve as a reference laboratory by responding to requests from outside the university," he said.
