Eti Bakır's New R&D Laboratory Enters Service

Eti Bakır's New R&D Laboratory Becomes Operational Eti Bakır is launching a new era in mining technologies with its R&D Laboratory now operational at the Mazıdağı Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Facility. Working in integration with the Mazıdağı Facility, the world's only centre for cobalt recovery from pyrite concentrate, the R&D laboratory will enable the company to develop capabilities for producing different rare elements and new value-added products. The new R&D Laboratory opened at the Eti Bakır Mazıdağı Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Facility, which produces 2 percent of the world's cobalt output, will become one of Turkey's leading symbol centres in value-added mining technologies. In the laboratory, cobalt and zinc currently in production will be refined to increase value-addition, while nickel, magnesium, lithium and rare earth elements will be produced and refined. Working in integration with the Mazıdağı Facility, the world's only centre for cobalt recovery from pyrite concentrate, the R&D laboratory will enable the company to develop capabilities for producing different rare elements and new value-added products. General Manager of Eti Bakır AŞ Mazıdağı Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Facility Emre Kayışoğlu made the following comments on the matter:

'The path to representing our country at much higher levels in the world in mining and value-added industrial production passes through creating a comprehensive innovation culture. This R&D Laboratory that we have opened at our Mazıdağı facility in Mardin will indeed be a very important part of this culture in our company. Our new laboratory will provide us and our country with a significant competitive advantage in today's technologies, while also ensuring that Turkey takes its place among countries with a say in tomorrow's technologies and supply chains globally. With the technologies and value-added products we develop here, we aim to make Mardin one of the world's leading centres in strategic metals and rare elements, particularly cobalt and zinc, and an indispensable business partner for high-technology sectors.'  

Underlining that new investments could be brought online as a result of research and development activities to be conducted within the laboratory at the Mazıdağı facilities, the region's largest private sector investment, Emre Kayışoğlu continued his remarks as follows:

'All these investments provide very important contributions to the economic development of our region and our country. On the other hand, the improvements we are making here provide important support to our sustainability goals. Thanks to this centre, we are significantly reducing our consumption of chemical products, steam, electricity and water in our production processes, and by increasing metal recovery efficiency, we are taking an important step forward in terms of productivity.'   Source
