EcoMATE: New Monitoring System for Ship Fuel Consumption and Carbon Emissions

Krohne has introduced a new version of EcoMATE: fuel consumption monitoring software that also includes carbon emissions monitoring and reporting for ships. This enables fleet owners and operators to track all vessel types through a single integrated software platform that automatically calculates and reports emissions and efficiency data. EcoMATE is compliant with both EU Regulation 2015/757 on monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon dioxide emissions from maritime transport (EU MRV) and the International Maritime Organization Data Collection System (IMO DCS) for global-scale monitoring of fuel consumption on vessels. Both frameworks aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from maritime transport. The fuel bunkering module enables monitoring, verification and recording of fuel quantities received via the fuel bunkering line. During fuel bunkering, EcoMATE visualizes mass flow, volumetric flow, flow rate, density and temperature measurements from a Coriolis-type mass flowmeter as trend graphs. While measurement data is recorded and stored in the data log, reports showing fuel types received, along with density verification, can be printed or transmitted digitally to a shore station. The EcoMATE EU MRV & IMO DCS module assists crew, fleet owners and operators in generating emissions reports in compliance with these regulations. It also includes a range of features that simplify daily operations and reporting requirements per voyage or vessel. EcoMATE Cloud is a centralized web reporting tool for vessels using the EcoMATE system. Data from the other three modules is automatically transmitted to the cloud, where it can be viewed, downloaded or analyzed through a dashboard accessible via any web browser. For example, fuel consumption or emissions trends related to temperature, speed and/or thrust power in kilowatts per vessel can be displayed. This allows comparison of voyages conducted by vessels at different times, and measured data for each vessel can be easily analyzed. Krohne offers a broad supply scope adapted to different vessel types, including workstations, flowmeters, valves and support services depending on installation requirements, as part of the EcoMATE infrastructure.
