Aselsan to Begin Manufacturing Medical Devices

ASELSAN, a defense industry company, is conducting work on projects and solutions that will reduce dependence on imports in the health technologies field and increase domestic design and manufacturing capabilities.

According to information obtained by AA correspondent, within this scope, design activities continued on Mobile Digital X-Ray Device and Magnetic Resonance Imaging System development projects that were carried out with own resources last year. Additionally, work was initiated to develop a High Frequency X-Ray Generator, a critical sub-component of radiography devices.

ASELSAN's Medical Imaging Product Group applied to TÜBİTAK's Industry Innovation Network Mechanism (SAYEM) Program, launched with the objective of developing high value-added product groups, and acceptance was received.

During 2019, within the scope of SAYEM Phase-1, productization roadmap preparation work was carried out for Mobile Digital X-Ray Device and Magnetic Resonance Imaging System.

The company is continuing preparations for the Industry Cooperation Project concerning the supply of 5 items of Medical Devices (Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computed Tomography, Ultrasonography, Patient Bedside Monitor, Digital Radiography) by the Health Ministry.

In the tender to be held on 30 June in accordance with the Industry Cooperation Program Regulation prepared under the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, commitments regarding domestic production, technology transfer to the country, investment and exports will be considered in addition to the procurement cost.

ASELSAN also began evaluating cooperation opportunities for joint product development with domestic medical device manufacturing companies last year.

Within this scope, work was conducted with Metsis company on developing a defibrillator (electric shock device). The company aims to begin sales of the device this year. In the same cooperation framework, preparatory work was initiated for "manual defibrillator/monitor development".

ASELSAN plans to develop medical devices in 3 different areas under imaging, diagnostics and life support in the health technologies field. Within this scope, work is being conducted on cooperation with domestic and foreign companies and research centers to develop mammography, coagulation measurement device, glucose monitoring system, heart-lung pump and mechanical ventilator devices.
