A project prepared at Erzurum Technical University (ETÜ) has been approved for support under the 'TÜBİTAK 1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Programme'.

The project titled "Investigation of HER Activities of Two-Dimensional TMDC Structures with Surface Modifications", led by Associate Professor Güven Turgut from ETÜ Faculty of Science, with Research Associate Dr. Mehtap Aygün from ETÜ Faculty of Science, and supervised by Professor Mehmet Ertuğrul and Professor Ayşe Bayrakçeken from Atatürk University and Associate Professor Önder Metin from Koç University, has been approved for support under the TÜBİTAK 1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Programme. Noting that hydrogen, a cheap, sustainable and harmless energy source that can reduce the release of environmentally harmful gases as fossil energy sources are rapidly consumed worldwide, can be used in energy production, Project Director Associate Professor Güven Turgut continued his remarks as follows: "Hydrogen is being viewed as an effective solution in the search for new energy types due to its advantages such as containing more energy per unit mass than oil and its derivatives, and not producing environmentally harmful products in its use. Developing low-cost, high-efficiency and long-lasting electrocatalysts as alternatives to platinum used as an electrocatalyst in hydrogen production is of great importance in improving the hydrogen production efficiency of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) monolayer materials. In the project, new types of functional TMDC structures will be synthesized by our team for the first time in the literature. With atomic-scale surface modifications in these synthesized structures, we aim to increase hydrogen production," he said.Advertisement
