Academic Center in the Field of Cosmetics: KOZMER

Academic Center in Cosmetics: KOZMER Prof. Dr. Nazan Demir, Director of Turkey's first and only Cosmetic Products Application and Research Center, established 10 years ago within Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, stated that the center's work is supported by the local population and that this support will change Turkey's destiny.   Students from primary, middle and high schools in the region visit MSKÜ Cosmetic Products Application and Research Center (KOZMER) to observe its work and learn more. During a visit by students from Menteşe Denizovası Middle School to KOZMER, Director Prof. Dr. Nazan Demir and Deputy Director Prof. Dr. Yaşar Demir provided information on organic liquid soap, organic cologne production and biomaterials. Students were informed that in addition to plant-based production, Sığla trees, which grow only in the Muğla region of Turkey, feldspat minerals, and mud from Dalyan are also biomaterials. It was noted that shrouds made from nettle were found in graves from Peru, and that nettle is also a biomaterial.
"Turkey's first academic center in cosmetics"
KOZMER Director Prof. Dr. Nazan Demir, stating that efforts will change Turkey's destiny if guided by science and with continued support from the local population, said: "This center is the first academic unit in the country in the field of cosmetics, the first academic center. I believe that as long as science guides us and the local population supports us, this effort will never be in vain and will change the destiny of the region and more broadly Turkey. In today's education, differently from before, alongside plant-based production, I spoke to our children about biomaterials. Today sığla is a biomaterial, feldspat mines are a biomaterial. The mud in Dalyan Kaunos is a biomaterial. Thousands of years ago, shrouds made from nettle were found in graves excavated in Peru. Nettle is a biomaterial and an excellent textile material," he said.
"Turkey cannot remain outside global green technology"
Prof. Dr. Demir, stating that Turkey cannot remain outside the global green technology surge by merely growing plants and obtaining essential oils, said: "Today the entire world is under the storm of green chemistry, green technologies and biotechnologies. Turkey cannot remain outside this storm. However, Turkey cannot be part of this storm simply by growing plants and obtaining essential oils. As I also tell our students today, money rules the world, knowledge rules money, and academia rules knowledge. Not as I told the students 'I made it, it's done.' Is your product safe, do you have safety and efficacy tests or what methods have you developed and are implementing for this, but have they worked – we are striving to overcome all these paths with knowledge-based, R&D-based, trademark, patent, registration-based and exportable production using plants identified in the world's databases. This is of course a difficult process. For 10 years this movement in Muğla has always attracted interest and received support. It is a difficult process. But still, I believe that in 10 years we have come a long way, we have succeeded, slowly but surely the region is changing and transforming, and this movement is very valuable for the country," he said.
