They Produced Natural Hair Dye from Endemic Plants

Two students from Kadirli district in Osmaniye have produced natural hair dye using a mixture made from endemic plants grown in Çukurova, with support from their teachers. The students' project will participate in TÜBİTAK's middle school project competition in the coming days. Sixth-grade students Elvin Bozkurt and Kemal Dallı, together with their teacher İlkay Özil, have successfully produced hair dye entirely naturally from endemic plants of Çukurova. The hair dye made from a mixture obtained from natural plants grown in the region consists of 3 different colors. The hair dye project, which contains no chemical substances and is made with entirely natural mixtures, will see the students participate in the TÜBİTAK middle school project competition to be held in the coming days. Project partner and sixth-grade student Kemal Dallı said, "It takes a long time, 500-600 years, for chemical substances to disappear in nature. Chemicals pollute the environment and harm animals and plants. To leave a clean nature for generations after us, we must use chemical substances as little as possible."   The project's other partner, sixth-grade student Elvin Bozkurt, stated: "This dye obtained from plants has no harm to nature or humans. People can use this dye with peace of mind. Natural substances can decompose in nature in as little as 3-4 months. The world is a living space for all of us. Let us use our living space cleanly."  

Their teacher İlkay Özil, who supported the students in their project, said the following on the matter:

"Aesthetic perception is very important nowadays. In this perception, hair is undoubtedly the most important element today. Women and men take care of their hair. Choosing the right product when caring for hair is extremely important. Based on this thinking, we carried out the production of natural hair dye. Unlike the hair dyes we use today, our produced hair dye contains no chemical substances whatsoever. It is entirely plant-based. By mixing various plants in specific proportions, we have obtained black, blonde and chestnut colors. In our produced hair dye, we used substances such as coffee waste, food waste, pomegranate peel, walnut shell, henna, chamomile and rock salt. Our hair dye has no harm to either humans or nature. Our students will compete with this project at TÜBİTAK. I wish them success from the outset."
