36 Cosmetics Brands Establish EcoBeautyScore Consortium
36 personal care companies and professional associations have joined forces to establish the EcoBeautyScore Consortium, aimed at developing an industry-wide environmental impact assessment and scoring system for cosmetics products. The EcoBeautyScore Consortium, which includes L'Oréal Group, stands out for its global and inclusive approach.

In a world where resources are depleting by the day and market dynamics are changing rapidly, 42% of consumers now prefer to purchase brands focused on circular and sustainable practices. Companies and civil society organizations are taking concrete action to meet these expectations by launching the EcoBeautyScore Consortium. This initiative aims to develop an industry-wide environmental impact assessment and scoring system for cosmetics products, providing consumers with open, transparent and comparable environmental impact information based on scientific methodology. The EcoBeautyScore Consortium will also help address growing consumer demand for greater transparency regarding the environmental impacts of cosmetics products across their formula, packaging and use phases.The 36 Supporting Brands
The members of the EcoBeautyScore Consortium, which aims to enable consumers to make sustainable choices through an environmental impact assessment and scoring system, consist of the following brands: Amorepacific, Babor, Beiersdorf, Colgate-Palmolive, Cosmébio, COSMED, Cosmetic Valley, Cosmetics Europe, cosnova, Coty, The Estée Lauder Companies, Eugène Perma, FEBEA, The Fragrance Creators Association, Henkel, IKW Beauty Care, The International Fragrance Association, Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc., JUST International AG, Kao, L'Oréal Group, LVMH, Nafigate, NAOS, Natrue, Natura &Co, NOHBA, Oriflame, P&G, Paragon Nordic, Puig, PZ Cussons, Shiseido, Sisley, STANPA, Unilever. The consortium will develop a scientific methodology for the environmental impact assessment and scoring system in collaboration with Quantis, experienced sustainability consulting. In this regard:- A common method for measuring environmental impacts of products throughout their life cycle, supported by "Product Environmental Footprint" principles. (A scientific method based on the European Union's life cycle assessment approach to measure the environmental footprint of products.)
- A common database concerning the environmental impacts of standard components and raw materials used in formulas and packaging, as well as during product use.
- A common tool that can be used by non-experts to assess the environmental impacts of individual products.
- A harmonized scoring system that enables companies to voluntarily inform consumers about the environmental footprint of cosmetics products.
L'Oréal Group Actively Participates in the Work
L'Oréal Group, which has pioneered the Product Environmental and Social Impact Labeling system in the sector, is actively participating in the consortium's work. Placing the empowerment of consumers towards more sustainable consumption at the center of its sustainability program "L'Oréal for the Future," L'Oréal Group is among the consortium's founding members and actively participates in the work.
