YESAV Founded Under the Slogan "The Treatment of the Future"

Industry – YESAV, newly established with the aim of reforming medicine under industry control and the slogan "Future Treatments," held its first press conference on 31 October at the Taksim Divan Hotel. YESAV Chairman Prof. Dr. Serdar Baki Albayrak stated that healthcare personnel in Turkey possess strong potential and that it is possible for Turkey to develop domestic and innovative treatments in healthcare by directing physicians toward innovation that will change current treatment paradigms. Dr. Albayrak said: "With our foundation, which we have established with an experienced team dedicated to multidisciplinary work from fundamental sciences, medicine and engineering, we have embarked on taking the lead in reforming medicine under industry control and fostering innovation in healthcare. In this context, we wish to draw attention to certain issues in the health industry that are moving toward serious monopolization. First and foremost, due to monopolization and high regulatory costs, the pace of innovation in healthcare worldwide falls below its potential. For example, only 1.5% of doctors worldwide engage in scientific research." Dr. Albayrak continued: "When we look at patent application numbers from certain universities abroad in 2016, we encounter figures such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with 10,222, California Institute of Technology with 6,240, Harvard University with 3,895, and University of Virginia with 3,323. For this reason, we recommend that innovative physicians within healthcare professionals – who produce approximately two-thirds of all scientific publications in our country – take the lead in developing more effective treatments and paradigm-shifting therapies and that support be provided for the commercialization of these activities."
