Renowned Turkish researcher joins Boğaziçi University

Renowned Turkish researcher among 35 scientists who will change the world, Prof. Dr. Utkan Demirci, to teach at Boğaziçi University. Particularly renowned for innovative technologies he has developed in early cancer diagnosis, infertility and in vitro fertilization, Prof. Dr. Utkan Demirci, who was named among the 35 scientists in the US who will change the world, is joining Boğaziçi University as a faculty member. Prof. Dr. Demirci, Faculty Member at Stanford University School of Medicine, will teach in the coming period at the Biomedical Engineering Institute and Physics Department at Boğaziçi University. After studying for one year at Boğaziçi University Faculty of Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Utkan Demirci was accepted to the University of Michigan with a scholarship from the Ministry of National Education and completed his undergraduate studies with distinction. He received his doctorate degree from Stanford University, where he completed his master's degree, in 2005. Between 2005-2014, he established and directed the Bio Acoustic Micro Electro Mechanical Systems Laboratory (BAMM Lab) at the Harvard University School of Medicine Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology Biomedical Engineering Department. Prof. Dr. Utkan Demirci was named in 2006 among the first 35 scientists in biotechnology who will change the world by Massachusetts Institute of Technology Technology Review Magazine for his successful work on AIDS. In 2013, he received the Bright Future Award for developing an inexpensive and effective device that can be used in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. Innovative solutions spanning from cancer to epilepsy, in vitro fertilization to infectious diseases The world-renowned researcher, who currently directs his own research team at the Canary Center for Cancer Early Detection at Stanford University School of Medicine, develops innovative solutions to current health problems through his work on micro and nano-scale technologies, including infectious diseases, fertility, cancer diagnosis, cryobiology (science of freezing living organisms) and biofabrication (technique used for producing biological products such as tissues and organs by multiplying cells). Demirci, who holds more than 20 patents for his inventions, is also the developer of the microchip method for screening healthy sperm in in vitro fertilization treatment. The chip technology that identifies cancer cells from body fluids in a very short time is also one of Demirci's internationally recognized inventions.
