Ulkar Kimya Aims to Advance Domestic Pharmaceutical Production

ISTANBUL (AA) - Berkant Köseoğlu, General Director of Ulkar Kimya, stated that as a company operating with entirely domestic capital, they work toward the goal of developing Turkey's domestic pharmaceutical production, noting that 'The Covid-19 pandemic reminded the entire world and our country of one reality: self-sufficiency in pharmaceuticals and food.'
For this reason, Ulkar Kimya, Ulkar Holding, and indeed Turkey's economy hold a strategic position. Recently, with our focus on the rare disease category in our product portfolio, we have become a center of global attention,' he said.
According to a statement from the company, Ulkar Kimya, located within approximately 64,000 square meters in the Çerkezköy Organized Industrial Zone, has reached 70 percent production capacity utilization.
The facility, which has the infrastructure to produce 275 tons of pharmaceutical active ingredients and 150 tons of micropellets annually, has two separate production areas: synthesis and micropellet production.
Köseoğlu, whose views are reflected in the statement, said their greatest goal is to develop new products for their sister organization Nobel İlaç through an R&D center, and continued as follows:
'By working in this direction, we reach patients who need the medication and introduce new products, while domestic production positively impacts Turkey's pharmaceutical trade deficit. Our primary priority in this endeavor is to manufacture with environmentally friendly policies to protect our world. Focusing on energy efficiency to produce in a more environmentally conscious manner, we view as a priority the regulation of electricity and natural gas usage, the establishment of renewable energy systems, and the installation of recycling systems in steam and water usage, and we are taking steps in this direction.' 'With 120 employees and our lean organizational structure, we are a production facility that operates at every level, from R&D to production and from quality to technical support, with environmental sensitivity, sustainability, hygiene, and quality awareness. Because the products we manufacture are pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical active ingredients, we pay attention to ensuring our workforce is experienced and skilled. However, we also provide employment to young people during their internships and at the start of their careers, to whom we will transfer our expertise and provide career support. Our R&D department, which has existed since our establishment, received State-Approved R&D Center Certification at the end of 2018 and continues its work under the name ULKAR-GEM. ULKAR-GEM operates with a separate structure of 20 people and a separate location. This center has recently focused on the development of raw materials that are rarely equivalent globally and their transfer to commercial production. In addition to these studies, alternative supplier evaluations, process efficiencies, and technology transfer significantly contribute to our company in both adding different products to our portfolio and reducing costs.
