Turkey's Biotechnology Medicine and Vaccine Platform Takes Important Step Forward Turkey continues as the Biotechnology Medicine and Vaccine Platform. Going forward, the Platform will support vaccine-related activities in our country, and with its expanding scope of operations, it is preparing to take important steps in the development of the biotechnology medicine and vaccine sector. In recent years, biotechnological methods in the global pharmaceutical industry have made it possible to treat many diseases. For this reason, every country is working intensively to make biotechnological medicines accessible to patients, and investments in this area are increasing. Since its establishment, the Platform has implemented various projects in close cooperation with both the public sector and universities. Standing out through the work it has carried out to date, the Platform has recently decided to expand its scope of activities in order to take active steps on the subject of vaccines, the importance of which has become increasingly emphasized, and to continue its mission as the Turkey Biotechnology Medicine and Vaccine Platform.

The Role of Biotechnology is Indisputable

Murat Barlas, Chair of the Turkey Biotechnology Medicine and Vaccine Platform, made the following statement on the matter: "The role of R&D and biotechnology is indisputable for the Turkish pharmaceutical industry to achieve the breakthrough it targets and secure its rightful place in global competition. Within this scope, for more than 5 years now, through our Platform, we have been working determinedly to foster the biotechnology climate needed in our country in terms of legislation, understanding and public-private sector-university collaboration; to build it on solid foundations. We are moving forward with increasing enthusiasm, aware that our activities are making a significant difference. With the COVID-19 pandemic that affected the entire world in 2020, we clearly saw the importance of vaccine development and production capability for countries. In our country, this process was successfully carried out under the COVID-19 Turkey Platform established under the leadership of our Ministry of Industry and Technology. However, during this difficult period we realized that as a nation, we must develop and produce vaccines both to manage the process we are going through and to combat similar epidemics that may emerge in the future. In this context, we decided to expand the scope of our Platform's activities. From now on, as the Turkey Biotechnology Medicine and Vaccine Platform, we will support vaccine-related activities in our country with great dedication, and we will make intensive efforts to strengthen coordination and cooperation in this field."
