TAB İlaç Raises Target for New R&D Investment

TAB İlaç Expands R&D Investment Goals TAB İlaç, which doubled its production capacity from 10 million units to 20 million units through recent investment in Turkey's pharmaceutical sector, has set larger targets with a new R&D initiative. Operating a facility in Istanbul that produces more than 200 different dietary supplement varieties based on the principle of 'improving life and delivering firsts' through innovative products, TAB İlaç has received its R&D Center (TAGMER) certificate from the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Since its establishment, TAB İlaç has achieved rapid growth through high-value-added and clean production principles. With TAGMER status, it will allocate 7 percent of its annual revenue to R&D. Operating production facilities that meet GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards to contribute to the national economy and expand its product portfolio, TAB İlaç received its R&D Center Certificate at the R&D and Design Centers and Technology Development Zones Summit, held by the Ministry of Industry and Technology for the 9th time this year.

Target: Turkey's first domestic drug

TAB İlaç Board Chair Aytekin Pahsa, noting that the company is currently developing 3 different projects with the goal of becoming Turkey's first domestic drug, stated: "As TAB İlaç, we recognize that the foundation of development and prosperity is innovative production with high value-added. In this context, since the day we were established, we have always demonstrated the TAB İlaç difference through the products we manufacture. In the period ahead, with our talented team in the field, we have established TAGMER to increase the diversity of our clean and value-added production. With our R&D Center, which consists of six units and a team of 22 people, making a rapid start in 2023, we plan to both expand our domestic drug portfolio and secure a significant share in international markets by year-end" he said. Emphasizing that Turkey is an innovative and domestic drug producer with more than 200 product varieties, confident in high-quality dietary supplements, Pahsa stated: "Clean content is a very important concept for our company. We are also aware of the responsibility we have taken on in this regard. The human metabolism is a system that functions very perfectly within its own nature. If incorrect intervention is made in this system, we know some of the possible consequences in the short, medium and long term, and some we do not know at all. The best we can do is try to stop the incorrect interventions we know about as soon as possible. This is where TAB İlaç's philosophy lies—providing treatment with clean methods, without harm" he said.

We became the fastest-moving company in Turkey

Pahsa, also emphasizing that TAB İlaç has moved very quickly in implementing health-related decisions made by international authorities, continued his remarks as follows: Titanium dioxide, which the European Food Authority categorized as unsafe in March 2020 after its harmful effects had been discussed for some time and is used in many drugs and dietary supplements for color and coating, was first removed from our products in Turkey, and we continued production with an alternative solution. The harms of refined sugar began to be recognized. However, more harmful artificial sweeteners took the place of sugar. In our products, we do not use artificial sweeteners such as sucralose, aspartame, acesulfame-K. Just as with titanium dioxide, we can confidently say that we are the trendsetting company in this area as well. With the R&D center we have established, we will eliminate as much as possible the "excipients" used in pharmaceutical product formulations. We are currently analyzing the results of this work. Very soon we will increase our international market share with breakthrough new formulations in the sector".
