Sanofi Exports 20% of Its Production
Cem Öztürk, Sanofi Turkey Country President and President of Turkey, Africa and Middle East Essential Products, stated that they export 20% of their production to developed countries such as Japan, Germany and France.
Sanofi Turkey Country President and President of Turkey, Africa and Middle East Essential Products Cem Öztürk noted that 1 out of every 7 drugs produced in Turkey is manufactured at Sanofi's facilities, and stated: 'We export 20% of our production to developed countries such as Japan, Germany and France.'
Öztürk made these remarks to an AA correspondent following a panel discussion titled 'Innovation in Healthcare for Sustainable Development' hosted by Sanofi within the framework of the 6th Istanbul Economics Summit.
Describing themselves as an innovative global pharmaceutical company, Öztürk said: 'As one of the major players in Turkey's pharmaceutical sector, we have significant investments in our country. In addition to our operations, I believe we need to contribute to the entrepreneurship ecosystem in healthcare. We are here to contribute to the development of this ecosystem.'
Noting that Turkey's progress over the past 20 years has been remarkable, Öztürk stated that Turkey's potential is indisputable given its young population of 80 million and its structure.
Drawing attention to Turkey being a market very open to development, Öztürk said: 'When we look at the entire world, we are talking about a USD 1.3 trillion market, and almost 50% of it is made up of the United States. When we look at the figures in Turkey, we have a pharmaceutical market size ranging between USD 6 to 7 billion. I believe this market can go much further, and we need to develop new molecules in Turkey through innovation. I do not believe any single company can develop this alone. We need serious innovation here.' he said.
'Turkey is one of the key countries we have identified'
Cem Öztürk, noting that their logo begins with a question mark, expressed the following: 'The two different dots in our logo represent where we are and where we are trying to reach. I always think we can do this with a team. Our investments in this regard continue. We have been in this country for 65 years, with an investment of USD 1 billion and more than 1,500 employees. Approximately 900 of them work at our factory in Lüleburgaz. We produce not only for Sanofi but for all of Turkey and we are proud of it. When you go to a pharmacy in Turkey, 1 out of every 7 drugs produced is manufactured in our facilities. At the same time, we export 20% of our production to developed countries such as Japan, Germany and France. In this context, our contribution to foreign trade is indisputable.' Emphasizing that being here for 65 years and making a USD 1 billion investment would not be enough, Öztürk drew attention to Turkey beginning to become a 'hub' in the healthcare sector, saying: 'Turkey, the Middle East and Africa are in our area of responsibility. One of our objectives is to further develop this, continue our investments, and export these investments abroad with different investments in future periods. As Sanofi, we have identified approximately 12 key countries in the world and Turkey is one of them.' Source (AA)Advertisement
